What does it mean to be missional?
To pray for the lost? To go overseas? To make a difference in some area of our community? It is all of the above and more!
Most churches and organizations tend to reach out to those who are most like them. These groups would be considered an M1(one) on the missional scale. (People who are most like us, speak the same language, understand the same culture, and embrace the same values.)
Who reaches out to those who are unlike us but loved by Jesus?
What about those who are an M3 or an M4 on the missional scale? They may not have learned English as a first language, they may embrace different cultural norms and values, their religious preferences may not be Christian but Buddhist, Muslim, Hindu or simply no spiritual interest at all.
What about Reaching The Campus?
The reality of working at Central Michigan University is that there are many people who do not fit neatly into our church culture. Many of the students on campus today are minimally an M2 on the missional scale. So, although they may speak our language they do not relate to church customs or culture.
How do we show God’s love to those who don’t want to go to church?
This is where Chi Alpha can make the most difference!
We focus on being where the students are, relating to their specific issues, while showing (not simply telling) them how Jesus cares for them. Our goal is to be a bridge between the university and local communities of faith.
Keep Chi Alpha in prayer as they reach to those who are loved by Jesus.
